The foundation and its aims
In November 1999, 55 years after her execution, a public foundation was established for the perpetuation of the memory of Hannah and her comrades. The foundation is recognized as a non-profit organization by the tax authority of Israel. The establishment of the foundation was initiated by the Senesh family, friends from Sdot Yam Kibbutz and from among the general public. The foundation has set itself the following goals:- The establishment of a Hannah Senesh memorial visitors' center until the 60th anniversary of her death. The center is intended to include the following:
- An entrance hall with an exhibition dealing with the legacy of Hannah and the parachutists, and a reception desk.
- An auditorium for the screening of a multi-meida presentation and for lectures for up to 150 persons.
- Two classrooms to be used by schoolchildren visiting the center.
- An air-conditioned archives room for the preservation of the original documents in suitable climatic conditions.
- A display room for Hannah's legacy featuring her personal belongings, writings, letters and documents, all donated by the family.
- A study room which will include a central computer system and a library of books dealing with the parachutists' mission and the era.
- Toilets, a cafeteria and a souvenir store.
- A large parking lot.
